| 1st Convention - 1972 |
| Note: The first ever international magic convention was held on 15th December 1972. Subsequent quote from Magic Info Jan 1973: "Eric Ward (dressed as Santa) successfully escapes from a burning rope after being tied in a straight jacket and hung 80ft in the air outside the Empire Rooms, Tottenham Ct Road. It was shown on both BBC & ITV the same evening"...what the Info didn't mention was that not only did the spectacular escape draw a huge crowd, it created a monumental traffic jam on Tottenham Court Road and made evening news headlines....this was indeed the start of an unconventional convention....! |

| Note - this year was disrupted by heavy snowfalls and some acts such as Davido were unable to fly into London. It was a memorable year as magicians such as Pat Page, Keith Cooper & Carol and Paul Daniels kindly stepped in on the gala show. Paul was ably assisted by Richard Ross and performed an unforgettable improvised spot of sheer entertainment still fresh today in the memory of those present that evening. |
